14 days of pure motorcycle riding adventure from Nairobi Kenya to Addis Ababa Ethiopia. The motorcycle tour passes through the Great Rift Valley to the Horn of Africa, the cradle of mankind Ethiopia. The motorcycle tour traverses through beautiful scenery of mountains, lakes, rivers, deserts, as well as the shores of Lake Turkana in Kenya , the banks of the Omo River in Ethiopia.

The motorcycle tour that combines riding through Northern Kenya and South West Ethiopia will give you the opportunity to interact with ancient pastoralists tribes of the Samburu, Turkana, Gabbra, Rendile in Kenya and Dassanech, Hamer, Mursi, Karo in Ethiopia. On the motorcycle safari, we visit the Sibiloi Park, where man is said to originate. This is an adventure  motorcycle tour loaded with culture, flora, fauna, history, treks and discovery of some of the best off-the beaten tracks of Kenya and Ethiopia.

DAY 1

ARRIVAL TO NAIROBI.

Arrival to Nairobi where you will be welcomed by one of our airport representatives. You will be transferred to Osoita Lodge in Nairobi your tour accommodation for the night. Lunch will be at the Carnivore restaurant in Nairobi. Back at Osoita Lodge you’ll be briefed about the motorcycle tour itinerary, as well as checking out the adventure motorbikes for the Kenya and Ethiopia motorcycle tour that commences the next day for a very adventurous motorcycle tour that transverses through Northern Kenya and South West Ethiopia.

 

DAY 2

NAIROBI – ELEMENTAITA LAKE

25 km of paved road + 190 km of stone and gravel roads (9 hours including stops)

Today very early in the morning our adventure motorcycle safari departs from Nairobi as we head towards the Ngong Hills. We ride along a very steep route in the Masaai land of Kedong in the heart of The Great Rift Valley. As we ride, you will come across animals and wildlife along the riding route. We shall have picnic lunch along the way and later tackle the Mau escarpment passing through beautiful villages and locals going on with their daily lives, splendid landscapes of the rift valley before descending to Lake Naivasha from where we ride along a stony track up to Lake Elementiata.

Our lodging for the night is  the Sleeping Warrior Camp, a boutique charming camp situated in the private game reserve of Soysambu tucked away amidst volcanic rocks. Dinner and overnight at Sleeping Warrior Camp.

 

DAY 3

ELEMENTAITA – MARALAL

145 km of tar + 135 km of laterite tracks (9 hours including stops)

Today, the motorcycle tour departs from Elementiata and heads to Nakuru Kenya. We ride on a beautiful tarmac road through the escarpment of the great rift valley, crossing the equator at Subukia where we stop for photo-ops before tackling the Laikipia where we ride past abundant wildlife and animals along the motorcycle route. As we ride, we can see the gigantic Mount Kenya in the background. This is motorcycling adventure at its best. We arrive at Maralal late in the afternoon and check into Ngari Hill Cottages for dinner and overnight as we reminisce over today’s adventure motorcycle trails. What a riding day!

 

DAY 4

MARALAL – LOYENGALANI

225 km of stone and sand roads (8:30 hrs inclusive of the riding breaks)

Today, the motorcycle adventure through Kenya enroute to South West Ethiopia continues. After breakfast, we jump onto the rental motorbikes and depart from Maralal as we head to Loyengalani. The motorcycle route is predominantly through the Great Rift Valley before we descend into the massive  Suguta valley. We cross into Samburu via the South Horr village where we have encounters with the Turkana and Rendile ethnic peoples. Along the motorcycling route , we shall interact with the Samburu and Turkana pastoralists tending to their goats and cows. Late in the afternoon/evening we finally arrive at Lake Turkana or Jade sea, the lowest point of the Rift Valley, where it is scorching hot and dry. Dinner and overnight is at Oasis Lodge located in the Loyangalani Palm Village.

 

DAY 5

LOYENGALANI – SIBILOI PARK

165 km of sand and stone roads  (7 hours including rest riding stops)

We are getting closer to the Kenya border and this morning the motorcycling adventure tour departs from Loyengalani as we ride to Sibiloi National Park. After breakfast, it is time to get onto the rental motorbikes and  ride along the banks of Lake Turkana with stunning views. We later in the afternoon arrive at Sibiloi National Park a beautiful game reserve and great deposit of the great rift valley and mecca of the origins of man.

Accommodation for the night is at Alia Bay bungalows .

DAY 6

SIBILOI PARK – BANYA BORDER – MURELE

150 km of sand and stone tracks (7 and a half hours including rest breaks and border formalities)

This morning, it is time to bid goodbye to Sibiloi National Park as we head to South West Ethiopia. Northern Kenya has provided us with lots of motorcycling adventure, through the great rift valley, Lake Turkana, Lake Elementiata, Nakuru, and now Sibiloi National Park. The motorcycle adventure tour today takes us through Sibiloi National Park to Koobi For a on the shores of Lake Turkana. The motorcycle tour then heads north towards the Kenya/Ethiopia border village of Illeret. Arrival at the border and complete border crossing formalities with the police and immigration on both the Kenya and Ethiopia side before continuing the riding through Dassanech villages. We arrive at Omorate for passport formalities and finally at Murelle where we set up camp for the night.

 

DAY 7

MURELLE – KARO – JINKA

170 km of sand and laterite tracks + 45 km of tarmac (9 hours including riding stops)

We depart from Murelle this morning and head towards Karo in South West Ethiopia. This Kenya and Ethiopia motorcycle adventure tour continues with an excursion along the Omo River which is a tributary of Lake Turkana. We arrive at the village of Duze for an awesome interaction with the Karo Warriors. From Duze we head towards the Turmi hills home of the Hamers pastoralists and zebus breeders . The riding tour has a rest stop in Dimeka to explore the local market famous for selling coffee, milk, spices, tobacco and fabrics. Later in the evening, we arrive at Jinka home of the Omo and other tribes of Southern Ethiopia. Dinner and overnight at Eyob Pension & Campsite.

 

DAY 8

JINKA – MURSI

100 km of steep riding  slopes.

We spend most of today in Jinka visiting and interacting with the nomadic Mursi tribes. The Mursi are nomads that move between the Omo River and Mago National Park of Ethiopia. We shall have a picnic lunch  and later return to Jinka at the  Eyob pension & Campsite.

 

DAY 9

JINKA – SODO

20 Kms of tarmac + 255 km of rolling roads (9 hours including riding breaks)

The adventure continues in South West Ethiopia as we ride along  and through the beautiful Ethiopian Rift Valley mountain passes, crossing Maze villages in Zala Beto, Maze  National Park, before we arrive at Saula in Basketo country. We ride and arrive at the city of Sodo after a gruelling by adventurous 9 hours motorcycle ride. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Fantasion.

 

DAY 10

SODO – AMEYA

195 km of winding roads + 15 km of  gravel roads (8 hours including riding breaks along the route)

Ethiopia motorcycle tour in the South of Ethiopia departs from Sodo to Ameya today. We depart from Sodo very early in the morning for a long ride travelling through mountain passes, gorges, rapids and waterfalls of the Omo River, descending from the Ethiopian mountains of the South, before arriving at Ameya, near Chambora National Park where you find large herds of elephants. Dinner and overnight at Wild Camp.

DAY 11

AMEYA – JIMMA

115 km of sharp winding roads  (5 hours including stops)

We ride through sharp mountain riding passes and  through beautiful mountainous landscapes of the Ethiopian Rift Valley, crossing the Omo river before arriving at Jimma, gateway to the south west of Ethiopia and region famous for native coffee trees. Dinner and overnight at the Welde hotel .

 

DAY 12

JIMMA – WELISO

255 km of tarmac (7 hours including stops)

We continue with out motorcycle tour adventure through beautiful South Ethiopia. Today we ride on a pleasant to drive  tarmacked road crossing the mountains to Weliso before crossing the Omo River and the Gibe River which flows into the Omo River, both supplying Lake Turkana. We later continue the beautiful ride until we arrive at  Negash Lodge  our secluded beautiful accommodation for the night with natural hot springs which supply water to the lodge’s swimming pools in a lush green setting of tropical vegetation.

 

DAY 13

WELISO – ADDIS ABABA

75 km of gravel roads  and 130 km of tarmac (7 hours including stops).

We are nearing the end of our adventure motorcycle tour which started in Nairobi Kenya and now looks set to end in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. It has been 12 days of pure motorcycling adventure so far. Nothing would have prepared you for such amazing motorbike gems as we drove through Northern Kenya and South Western Ethiopia.

After breakfast, we jump onto the KTM adventure motorbikes again and bid goodbye for Weliso as we start our journey into Addis Ababa the capital of Ethiopia. We ride through mountain passes and winding roads overlooking a small crater lake Wenchi. We continue to ride on a great motorable road until we arrive in Addis Ababa where the motorcycle tour adventure ends.

Dinner and overnight at Ghion Hotel.

 

DAY 14

Motorcycle tour ends and departure from Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

Transfer to Addis Ababa airport for your departure international  flight.

  • A team of 5 people including a medical assistant on board a 4×4 vehicle with rapid means of communication in the event of an emergency (VHF RADIO and satellite telephone in conjunction with the evacuation organization “Flying doctors”)
  • It is possible to participate as a pillion on board the support 4x4 vehicle.
